About Me..
Hello, I am Meg, owner of Point Forward Canine Academy.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have always been passionate about animals but especially dogs. For years I begged my parents for a dog but never managed to get my own one until I was 22 years old. Due to this, I had to give all my love to everyone else’s dogs instead which just wasn’t enough.
In 2016, I went to Easton College to study an Extended Diploma in Animal Management. Within this course, I completed subjects such as Kennels & Cattery, Nutrition, Vet Nursing and Farm Work. As part of my course, I had to do a volunteering placement and complete a certain number of hours to pass my diploma. I managed to secure my voluntary placement at a local Boarding Kennels. I absolutely adored this role. In this job, I learnt all about traits and personalities of different breeds, management, different usage of equipment and so much more. Mostly importantly to me, I came across my first ever German Shorthaired Pointer, fell in love and the rest is history. I continued my volunteering job, until I was quickly offered a paid role and stayed at the kennels for 2.5 years until I moved on.
At the end of 2019, Otto came into my life. I started training him early 2020 at a local established training school, sadly in between covid lockdowns. After being a customer at the training school for several months, I started volunteering at their day care before moving onto completing their Instructor Course. Once I had done this, I started part time offering classes and working in their day care before becoming full-time a couple of months later. My knowledge and experience with dogs grew and I became a Senior Instructor at the school. I learnt so many skills, became a better handler and it has made me the dog trainer I am today.
I believe experience and education is extremely important in this career path so I have and will continue to educate myself further.
In 2023, I completed a iPet Network Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid.
In 2024, I became qualified as a Guild of Dog Trainers Professional Dog Training Instructor.
In 2024, I completed a Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Canine Behaviour through the British College of Canine Studies.
I also am very passionate about dog sports and my own progression with my own dog.
In 2021, Otto became an Expert Trick Dog with association with Do More With Your Dogs ( UK Trick Dogs).
In 2022, Otto completed the highest award at my local club which was Gold Star with a mark of 187.5/200.
I also currently compete in Kennel Club registered Agility and regularly train competitively towards Working Tests and Field Trials in HPR Gun Dog with him too.
